Good-by MacIE
To make all files by UTF-8 therefor the movement of Internet is going straightly to XML and XSLT.
It was the concept to renewal my site on this time. I did not have any hasitation not use CSS for NN4.x and MacIE4.5, but I really wonderd to exclusion MacIE5 or not. MacIE that had finished the evolution in 2003 Jun.
However, I wanted to achieve it by any means. The WinIE user must use MacIE if there is IE installed by default when Win user starts and touches Mac to have compromised to Win when becomoming OSX. To make it correspond for MacIE is completely different meaning of that I ever had wasted many energy for NN4.x managements.
The results are below and the charactor set of all files is UTF-8.
XHTML 1.0 Transitional Standard Mode. BOM none ( declare charset )
CSS files = BOM none
JS files = BOM none
CGI file = BOM none
Comfirmed Enbironment :
Mac OSX Panther (10.3) = safari 1.3 & IE5.2
Win 2k sp4 = IE5.0 & IE5.5 & IE6
Win XP sp2 = IE6
The base construction of this site is right. My first achievement was that making the background image see-through in the Content part. And the second was setting link bottons in Header part position:absolute arranged by CSS controll with applying a major technique recently while moving one background image. Also the boxes are position:absolute arranged in Content part at random in Top Page.
A lower liquid of Contents was achieved while keeping the background see-through by piling it up to Container by using the cash of the background image to make it display in Body. Arrangement of buttons in Header part was no problem. The unexpected one was the liquid of the width of boxes at Top Page. It was not thinking resulted that I could manage it by using legacy Table method for Mac Safari troubling of the float when the first line of the text was shorter than the after lines.
MacIE5 displays properly this structure without any patch thought that other various techniques exist. There is no CSS file only for MacIE5. The MacIE5 patch was applied only for the Top Page of ELLE data base. This is because the width of the cell of the table was not able to be controlled in case of displayed by text, I decided to leave it intentionally as a requiem to MacIE though it was possible to evade if I used Flash or images instead.
The impression to MacIE changes, too, seeing such an appropriate display.
I feel it loveable now though XML+XSLT+CSS was indeed impossible.
